The Hon Gladys Berejiklian MP, Premier of NSW

The NSW boom and how trade will benefit the State

2 August 2019

We were delighted to be involved in a multi Chamber lunch with NSW Premier, the Hon. Gladys Berejiklian MP, proudly sponsored by Optus Business.

And as partnership has been such an important theme of Premier’s conversation, it’s important to thank and acknowledge all the Chambers of Commerce who have come together in the spirit of collaboration to create such a fantastic event – AMCHAM (the American Chamber of Commerce), the Australia-Brazil Chamber of Commerce, the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce, the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, La Camara Spanish-Australian Chamber of Commerce, the Australia-Peru Chamber of Commerce and the Australia-Latin America Business Council. This lunch was a wonderful example of the multicultural, multi-faceted and collaborative face of international business partnerships in this state.

The Premier also discussed the New South Wales boom and how trade will benefit the state.

The outlook for the state of NSW is strong. Business investment, public infrastructure and dwelling construction are all exhibiting strength, lifting construction activity and employment in the State to record levels. Service exports are also contributing strongly to economic growth, underpinned by overseas visitors and international student enrolments.

The NSW economy will continue to benefit from low interest rates, a lower Australian dollar, strong demand from Asia, above trend population growth and an historically large infrastructure and residential construction pipeline. The key drivers of growth in the near term are forecast to be overseas exports, dwelling investment and public capital expenditure.
